Several of the group including Elsbeth, Geoff, Eric and John had brought along fresh samples of plants to be discussed.
This enabled us to to explore the arcane world of botanic terminology and come to grips with words like 'ligule', 'perianth', 'stipule' and 'style' amongst many others. Examining samples of Poa annua, Lamium album. and Capsella bursa-pastoris to mention just a few gave us all lots of opportunities to expand our knowledge.
Probably one of the most rewarding aspects of the afternoon was the number of people who asked for other workshops in the future such as grasses and ferns.
The group are most indebted to Geoff Morries for facilitating the afternoon ably and expertly assisted by Eric Greenwood.
Geoff also brought along some mince pies which proved very popular though we didn't take up David Beattie's suggestion that we should use our skills to identify the fruit in the pies.
